Akuapim South Municipal Assembly Commemorates World Environmental Day

2025 World Environmental Day As part of the Global Environmental day celebration, the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (N.C.C.E), embarked on a clearing and planting of trees exercise on the 4th June, 2025, to precede the occasion, which falls on 5th June, 2025, at Jamaicaso river, Aburi.

The MCE, Hon, Paul Osae, together with management of ASMA and students from Methodist Kemp Junior High School, Presby A at PWCE and Presby B at Kom, planted coconut and cedar trees to commemorate the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Paul Osae acknowledged the N.C.C.E and the assemblyman for ' awakening their interest for the assembly to maintain the well" adding "We would develop a whole redevelopment plan and would incorporate the Jamaican well into our environmental project and tourism agenda", this he said would uplift the image of Municipality. Community members also contributed in weeding and clearing of the site to make way for the celebration.

The Jamaica well was built by Jamaican missionaries who were brought to Aburi by white missionaries to propagate the gospel of Christ and has served the community from time immemorial till its abandonment due to the introduction of boreholes, however, he assured that the assembly would maintain it henceforth.

He charged the students to keep their eyes on their books and be "responsible and conscious citizens’’ to sustain the environment. The Director for NCCE explained that, the exercise is one of the sustainable development goals for the country. And as citizens, there is a need to avail ourselves to clean the environment whenever there is an opportunity. He commended members for their action.
